United Aims to Make Missed Connections a Thing of the Past

One of the most frustrating aspects of business travel is missing those all-important connecting flights. Depending on several circumstances, missing a connection can mean having to wait for hours, which may cause a ripple effect.

United Airlines is looking to tackle the issue of connecting flights using a new tool it’s calling ConnectionSaver which can identify flights that are departing and hold them for passengers that need to make a connection. The tool made its debut at Denver International Airport before expanding to Chicago O’Hare International Airport, the two airports being the airline’s busiest. There are plans to expand the tool in the future.

With ConnectionSaver, customers with a connection receive a personalized text message with directions to their connecting flight gate. Information is also included regarding how long travel time is expected to take. The app also takes into account several factors to determine whether or not a flight will be held, such as if the passenger was seated near the back of an aircraft such as a 757.

For those concerned about being delayed by other passengers looking to make their connecting flights, the delay has only been about six minutes or so and it has already helped more than 14,000 customers.
